“I watch her with loving sadness as she dulls her shine to please others. Will this butterfly ever soar? Will she continue to pretend she can’t fly? Her greatest life awaits this decision.” – Steve Maraboli

This quote really got me thinking this week. SO many women I work with are caught up in the act of people pleasing. I used to do the same thing even though I would never have considered myself a people pleaser.

I’ve been having lots of chats with women lately and sweet… ask yourself: do you want to please or soar in your life? What’s [...]
More

I met with a new client this week. Though she was new to me, her story was a familiar one that I had heard from many clients. She came to me regarding a lack of confidence in the workplace. She wanted to be more assertive and self-doubt. When I asked her why she didn’t assert herself more in the workplace she said she simply didn’t know enough. In my work with clients I have found that this is not true 99% of the time.

When I asked about her qualifications she proceeded to tell me about two very impressive degrees [...]
More

In my daily search for interesting opinions there was one article that really stood out to me this week. It was entitled “Visualize Failure” by Peter Bregman of the Harvard Business Review. It caught my eye because an article promoting failure is the last thing you would expect from a school that has educated some of the most successful people in the world. Even the idea itself of expecting failure seems so contrary to everything we learn from childhood to adulthood. However, in it’s simplicity it makes perfect complete sense.

The study focused on women and work history to help find out whether genetic influences on entrepreneurship are fixed or whether they can be weakened or strengthened by the social environment”. ** The study showed that girls, who were exposed to physical or emotional trauma such as parental divorce or domestic abuse, significantly weaken the genetic influences on girls becoming entrepreneurs.

It is not news to anyone that the climate of the workplace has shifted dramatically over the last year or so. My clients often tell me that they fear losing their jobs and empower yourself with the choices you do have.

In order to possesses confidence and if you want to be successful in any economy or job market, mastering this skill is crucial.

In order to be resilient you need to detach your self from the outcome of the situation you are presented with. This doesn’t mean check out completely. It means remove the self identification from the outcome of the situation. Go to the interview and unsure.
